Here's to the Heroes
30th-Oct-2006 07:17 pm
Well, now that I have finished the video, and ready to post it in my LJ, I can't think of anything to really say. Don't get me wrong, it isn't that I don't have anything to say, it is just that I don't know where to start.

You see, I could go into a long spiel about each and every clip and why I chose it. But one would like to think that possibly the viewers could see all that for themselves. The lyrics are also quite a clear guide to follow on that regard.

I could also bore you to tears and give you an hour by hour account of how long some clips were to make, and all the struggles and moments of pure satisfaction that I encountered on this little journey - but honestly, that would take away the feeling of the vid.

So I think I will just give you a little background and leave it at that.

Of all the fictitious heroes I have had, Harry is by far the greatest. His courage that keeps him going, all the losses and hardships he has endured, his benevolence, and his 'destiny' are all just the tip of the iceberg that makes him more than special.

Since I finished HBP, this was the one song that could summarise all the feelings I had churning in me. It covers my respect and admiration for Harry for all he has been through. It also bluntly covers my fears for him as he heads off into the unknown (a.k.a Book 7).

The Lyrics
Here's to the Heroes
From: "Follow Your Heart"
by Mario Frangoulis

Here's to the heroes
Those few who dare
Heading for glory
Living a prayer

Here's to the heroes
Who change our lives
Thanks to the heroes
Freedom survives

Here's to the heroes
Who never rest
They are the chosen
We are the blessed

Here's to the heroes
Who aim so high
Here's to the heroes
Who do or die

Here's to the heroes
Mia monacha prosefchi (A single prayer)
Those few who dare
Pera os pera alithini (Truthful throughout)
Heading for glory
Gia panta mesa stin kardia mou (Forever in my heart)
Living a prayer

Here's to the heroes
Who aim so high
Here's to the heroes
Who do or die

Thanks must go out especially to tajareyul and ladytonks for ALL their support and motivating words. You ladies were really appreciated. I am sorry I filled your hard drives with WIP clips for weeks on end. I could NEVER have got this far without you.
To ladytory who pointed out some clips when I hit a very blank spot. Thank you! As you can see, I used your ideas.
To kilcarr for all her advice and comments. They were really appreciated and very helpful.
And to daramay who sat through literally a month of me swearing about clips. *hugs* You don't need self-confidence when you have Dara as a friend, because she has all the confidence in you that you could ever need.

And lastly to browneydweasley, a lady who I have discovered is sharing the other half of my brain. I am sorry I missed your birthday (I thought you were Aries - have NOOOOO idea why... lol). Although I don't want to give this to you as a birthday pressie because it is dark and not in the least bit chipper, I would like you to consider this a gift in one way or another. I think you also have an appreciation for the non-fluffy, darker side of the fandom.

Well, that's it. Hope you guys enjoy it.

My head hurts. Because that's how hard I'm trying not to cry.

That was really gorgeous. I hope you'll share that with others on various communities, because i think you did a fabulous job on it!

Thank you!

For the first time, I must say that I am not sorry I almost made someone cry. That is a massive compliment.

I don't know about sharing it on other comms ... lol. I am a bit ... errr ... shy that way.

Thanks for the kind words.

Oh pan_alchemist!!! That is lovely!!! I know you've been working so hard on that and it came out beautifully!

In the beginning as soon as Dursley shut the vent window on young Harry my lip started quivering, then later adding in Lily *clutches heart* and the overlays with Sirius. Ahh!

I love fanfic and fan art and I'm so glad we have clever people like you who can make fan vids as well. Thank you!

Can I pimp this on my LJ?
31st-Oct-2006 05:07 am (UTC)
Thanks Maple!

I am glad to hear that it touched you. Harry's whole story is terribly sad, and I hoped to put that across.

lol... I don't know about being clever - just particularly neurotic over intsy-weentsy tiny miniscule details.

Pimp away ... lol. You don't have to ask.

Oh, you did such a good job. the fades; the images. the way the pictures and the words matched so perfect. the fact that it looks like dumbledore was singing.

You did a wonderful job.

And I am sorry things haven't been going well for you of late. Know that you have been in my thoughts. *hugs*

I said it before, but I'll say it again. You have a real talent for film editing. I really hope that if this is something you want to pursue, that you get the opportunity to learn and work in this field.

And it was my pleasure to be a sounding board and cheerleader.

(I'd give you a real review, but I'd just be repeating what I already told you in chat.)

*blushes madly*

Thanks Taj.

You were a spectacular help in this.

As to your reviews in chat, well, nothing could have touched me more than hearing you get 'choked up' the first time.

Thank YOU soooooooooooooo much for all your help, support and feedback.

Here via ladytory. That was amazing. I am always in awe of those who can make videos and this one was about the best I've seen. It was beautiful ... I have shivers.
31st-Oct-2006 06:45 pm (UTC)
Thank you!

I am delighted that you liked it. There are some really brilliant vids out there. You should ake a look at fadetonoir on YouTube. She does some really awesome things. Just be warned though... she does tough on MAJOR character death though. But they are still absolutely brilliant.

Thanks for the comment!

So fantastic. See, I told you every thing you do is ART!!!

Seriously, I absolutely love this and am so grateful that you thought to even seek my opinion. No thanks are necessary! Well, except for: Thank you for working so hard on this and sharing.

Hugs from many oceans away!

At this rate, I am going to resemble a setting sun forever... lol. I have not blushed so much in ages!

Thanks HP! Your words mean a lot. I am glad you liked it.

OH, MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is so incredibly beautiful...The sneak peek I got was truly a teaser, and I am overwhelmed at how you captured so much emotion in three minutes or so. WOW...as I sit here sniffing back tears, you expressed so accurately the the darker side of what it means to be a "hero" and how impossible it is to give enough thanks for the suffering and sacrifice. The image with Trelawney in the glass sphere with Harry just takes my breath away, and you completely had me from Dumbledore's raising his goblet to Harry...
This is truly an amazing piece of art, and I am so touched that you would mention me in the dedication. I certainly could never hope for a better gift or such a generous act of friendship. Thank you so very, very much!
3rd-Nov-2006 03:38 am (UTC)

I am glad you like it. *big smiles* The scene with Trelawney was particularly tricky, so I am happy you noticed it.

I am taken that you are touched by the vid. I must admit that I have seen it for too long, and tweaked things for to long, to either see the art value or the emotion behind it anymore, even though it was the intention to have it there.

*hugs madly*

Thanks for your support during the making of it.

Thank you!

Yes, I decided that a not-so-subtle fade to black would be the ending, because we don't know Harry's fate. A feeling of uncertainty was definitely one was aiming for. Thanks for mentioning it :D

I am really glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment

OMG! I am trying to stop crying so that I can write this. This video was absolutely beautiful. Every clip and shot was choreographed perfectly with the lyrics and music. The song was touching, but combined with the clips made it so heart-rending. It portrayed Harry and the other heroes in HP better than anything else I have ever seen. I started to tear up when I saw the trio from the first movie and I was sobbing by the time Lily was on the screen. You are a wonderful artist as well as a fantastic author. I am so looking forward to finding more of your video and literary works.

It is always a wonderful feeling when people notice the effort that goes into something you have created. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Thanks too for the comment on SU. (I was wondering how you found me... lol.)

Thanks again
